I'm a coach and athlete at heart so no matter how great something is that I do I'm usually not satisfied with it. As it applies to ministry today, I find myself constantly critiquing and looking for the amazing things those around me are doing and shouting it from the mountain tops! I LOVE giving credit where credit is due!
At the same time I'm always critiquing my performance to the Nth degree to look for ways to become better. One thing I consistently find myself critiquing is my motives and passion for teaching the material we teach at GSM.
I want to make sure that we're teaching things that WON'T just help students grow up and be better boys and girls. I'm not satisfied with that level of teaching/passion. I don't want to teach God's Word just so that students do the right things and say the right things...I'm not interested in nor am I satisfied with the 'song and dance' of Christianity. I want GSM to be a place that accepts students on any spectrum of their journey and then RAISES UP STRONG MEN AND WOMEN OF GOD WHO PASSIONATELY FOLLOW HIM WITH THEIR LIVES.
I refuse to be satisfied with anything less...and just to put it out there, if I EVER get satisfied with that level of mediocrity, I need to find a new job or be fired. THE Church is too important to have student ministry leaders who are only interested in behavior management!
I think that every student ministry leader would say..."that's not me" but take a closer look at what you teach on or say the most and see what your actions say you care about THE MOST. That's what I do, and it always keeps me in check.
Proverbs 21:2 "All a mans ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart."
