GSM Weekend Program - One Heartbeat

This series we're studying "
HABITS" from Simply Youth Ministry. We don't use curriculum for our weekend program but the "
HABITS" are too good to pass up! I wish I would have had someone share these with me in high school and middle school.
Habits is an acronym for:
- Hang time with God
- Accountability with another believer
- Bible Memorization
- Involvement with the church body
- Tithing Commitment
- Study Scripture
Teaching: The teaching side of things has been pretty straight forward but I find myself really being intentional about looking for ways to make some of this compelling. I mean lets be honest, how many students can't wait to talk about Bible Memorization.
Arts: The arts so far have been pretty scaled back besides some song specials with video backgrounds.
New: This is the first series that we've given the students handouts to write notes down on and it seems to be working great. I'm really thinking we should do this more. Usually students take notes on their phones (or are they really texting. haha) Some bring their journals, some write on their hands, and some don't take notes at all.
Overall: I'm happy with how things are going. I feel like overall we could pick up the energy to finish the school year strong but we're definitely having a good series. This is a hard series for me to teach (not really my preferred '
style' of teaching) but students have said it's been really helpful. That I'm really happy about!
You make me chuckle. “This is a hard series for me to teach.” I’m the exact opposite. I love all of our different teaching styles. I don’t like missing GSM because I’m home with a death cough.
I really love looking around and seeing all of the kids taking notes. Middle-schoolers taking notes at church – Who would have thought?!
