One of my Notre Dame Autographed Helmets for sale still?

A good friend of mine tweeted this to me last night that he came across on eBay and it brought back crazy memories of signing like 50 of these for people after games as I was trying to leave the stadium to go spend precious hours with my family while they were in town before they headed back out to Houston. I often wondered what happend to all those helmets, shirts, jerseys, hats, footballs, shoes, arms, faces, posters, wheelchairs, trucks, vans, dogs that I signed.  (no joke, some guy had me sign every article of Irish Apparel his Jack Russell named Rudy was wearing, he was hilarious to me but SERIOUS AS A HEART ATTACK about me signing all the stuff) Sometimes people swore up and down there weren't going to sell the stuff to make money while others were wanting them signed to specific people or charities. I remember these sorts of post-game convo's:
"will you sign this to my grandpa, his name is ______, who's in the hospital and loves Notre Dame so much and he won't be able to make a game this year so would you sign this for him?" "Will you sign this hat, t-shirt, jersey, etc. to my son (who would be standing next to them to shy to ask for himself) his name is _____." (Because I love kids I would usually try to conjure up some conversation with him involving some high fives and 'roughin him up a lil' then I would look him in the eyes and say something from my heart.  I love the dreams you can see in the eye of kids when you get down on their level and look them in the eyes........BEWARE PREACHER MOMENT COMING: Why do we lose that childlike dreamland and wonderland when we get older! Gosh we could learn so much from kids! OK PREACHER MOMENT OVER!) "I am your biggest fan (usually wearing my jersey), you spoke at my school (insert date)...will you sign this please?" (I secretly wondered...."are you really my biggest fan?  If so, what does that even mean!") This was a lady in her mid 40's probably and she met me as soon as I exited the gates of the stadium.  At least 500-1000 people are at this entrance, people are pushing forward to take pics and get autographs, and here's the conversation: "Can you take me into the locker room?  Me: No, and definitely not right now anyway the guys are still getting dressed and stuff maybe they'll do a tour tomorrow" (I said that knowing there likely wasn't a tour 'tomorrow').  Her: "I know, but I'd rather go in right now while everyone is still in there getting dressed."  Me: Nope can't do that sorry, ok bye! (then I quickly turned my back and started signing autographs looking over people to find my family and Brooke - we were dating at the time!) "Could you get the team to sign this, we want to auction this off and give it to our charity for _______"
It's all crazy to think about now but when you're in the moment the thing that comes to mind most is I can't believe they want me to sign this stuff.  Followed by thoughts of "did they see me miss those two tackles today?"  Followed by "I hope they remember this because I don't know if I will because there are still 12 games left this season and I'll have 1,000 more of these exact same conversations. I hope this moment was meaningful for them."   and THAT was usually followed by "I'M STARVING WHERE CAN WE GET FOOD!" Note: I'm not selling this helmet or any of my helmets or stuff which is why I'm not linking to this on ebay, just thought it was curious to see stuff still being sold in different places years removed  from my time at ND.

This pic gave me flashbacks!

Now I know a smidgen of what Army vets feel.  I saw this picture today and instantly flashed back into THE moment!

Sack on the Washington State Quarterback in 2002 close to the beginning of the game.   We hopped up off the ground and he said "You got to be kiddin me, where in the $%&# did you come from?" I said, "The big gap RIGHT up the middle, you might want to get that fixed, your O-line is terrible. This will be a good day for me!" Then I did a sinister smile and celebrated, haha. I was a mean boy. You gotta love the competitive banter...so funny and looking back on it! haha

It's amazing how serious we take A GAME! haha ....A.........GAME! ....GREAT MEMORIES THOUGH!

College Football: I just gotta say this

It's "interesting" reading comments about College Football from people who haven't actually played FB on that level. Not good or bad, just "interesting". :) The "funny" thing to me is everyone makes EVERYTHING sound so easy, hahahaha. I'll just speak for all the D1 athletes, if it was THAT easy EVERYBODY would have gotten the opportunity to play D1 college football. OK I'M DONE!  :) (that felt good, hahahahahaha)

Urban Meyer stepping down as Head Coach at Florida

Urban used to coach receivers when I was at ND and I have great respect for him.  Sad to hear but I love his priority!!! Family, Health, then Coaching... Read this over HERE:
"Urban Meyer is stepping down as head coach of the University of Florida football team, athletics director Jeremy Foley announced Saturday afternoon. "I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program,'' said Meyer. "I have ignored my health for years, butrecent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family. "After consulting with my family, Dr. (Bernie) Machen, Jeremy Foley and my doctors, I believe it is in my best interest to step aside and focus on my health and family. I'm proud to be a part of the Gainesville community and the Gator Nation and I plan to remain in Gainesville and involved with the University of Florida. "I'm very appreciative for the opportunity I've had to be a part of a tremendous institution - from Dr. Machen to Jeremy Foley and the entire administrative staff at UF. I'm also very thankful for the chance to work with some of the best assistants in college football and coach some of the best college football players and watch them grow both on and off the field as people. I will cherish the relationships with them the most. "Meyer will coach his last game for UF in the Gators’ Sugar Bowl match-up vs. Cincinnati on January 1st in New Orleans."

Sam Bradford & Colt McCoy say that Jesus is #1 on Video

Sam Bradford is starting Quarterback for the University of Oklahoma (Sooners).  In 2008 he became the Second SOPHOMORE EVER to win the Heisman Trophy and as a freshman he set the NCAA record for most touchdowns passes with 36. Colt McCoy is the starting Quarterback for the University of Texas (Longhorns).  He was the runner up (behind Bradford) for the 2008 Heisman Trophy.  In 2008 he won the Walter Camp Award and he's already projected to be a First Round Draft Pick.

My buddy Clif Marshall posted this yesterday on Twitter and I loved it!  I haven't checked this site in a while and I'm glad these two guys hopped on here and made a video sharing their faith!

Love to hate ND

So many people love to hate ND.  I remember playing and no one giving us credit when we had great wins.

Seems like things haven't changed a whole lot.  I'm not saying the team this year is amazing and off the charts but when people win, instead of hating it, just give them their credit and move on.

This article is a clear sign of someone who doesn't want to give ND it's props for pulling off a win against a rival.  I mean after all, it's only one of the top rivalry's in the country EVERY YEAR no matter who's good and who's not.

I think the reporter (Pat Forde) is clearly REALLY upset that Notre Dame won.  Check  out these excerpts, hahahah

  • "Yet after rallying past awful San Diego State in the opener and accepting a gift-wrapped 35-17 victory Saturday from self-destructing Michigan, the Irish are 2-0. Don't look now, folks, but they could be on their way to becoming the worst good team in recent college football history."
  • "Against that motley lineup, the highly average Irish conceivably could win enough to return to a big-time bowl game. Where they'd get crushed once again.  Put it this way: This Notre Dame team bears no resemblance to the 1988 national champions who were honored here this weekend."

  • (Referring to Weis getting hurt) "Weis sucked it up and coached through the pain and the rain. You can't blame him for not wanting to miss a play of this game, perhaps just to see how Michigan was going to give his team the ball next.
I sent Pat Forde an email and told him i thought the tone of his article was "over the top" and "humorous". haha, we'll see if he replies to my email.  If he does i might post it.

The TRUTH about College Football and the SUPER BOWL

Here's a good dose of reality for anyone curious about college and professional football. I've been asked a lot of questions about playing in the NFL and playing for Notre Dame, so i figured I'd post this video I found giving a little more info on the topic.

I'm thankful to God I was about to taste every level, it's sobering when I think about just how many people DON'T make it. Enjoy! (p.s. I LOVED their use of white boards)
