Camp is on the brain!
(3 of my favorite campers from last year...if I can have favorites. Not sure if that's legal. O well.)
Camp is on the brain as we're starting TODAY!! Students get to camp tomorrow but today all the Counselors and my staff is heading up. Camp (for the staff) started 6 months ago as we started receiving applications for counselors, but now we're just double checking that all the final details in place to make sure we have a great week.
For me, camp prep is a lot ike carpentry, measure twice, cut once. I try to double check all my responsibilities multiple times before ever leaving for camp so that when I get to camp, I can soar and not be worried about measuring on the fly!
I've found that things run smoother for me, when I over prepare. (Football training, conditioning, strategy at it's finest. I was my best when I was SO prepared I didn't even have to think about it.)
Jesus & Counselors (in the way we do camp) make camp what it is. Our counselors are essentially like a pressure cooker for mentor relationships between students and leaders.
Tomorrow, from camp, I'll post what I have always looked for when it comes to picking a mentor.
But for now, more camp prep!
