30 Day Bible Challenge

Back when I was in college at Notre Dame I used to give myself Bible Challenges all the time.  I used to decide I was going to do something, then I would just do it.  This morning I looked up and realize I read  a lot of the Bible, I study it like crazy all the time, I share the Bible all the time but it’s been a long time since I’ve given myself one of my old fashion Bible Challenges.

So, I’m a journey to read the entire New Testament in less than 30 days.  I’m excited.

Here’s a few things about me personally setting this goal:  This will be a challenge for me.

  • I very rarely just sit down and read as much as it will take to complete this goal.
  • I don’t feel like I have a ton of extra time so this will give me a chance to re-evaluate how i’m spending my time.
  • I’m not a book worm and don’t really love to just sit down and read so this will be a discipline for me for sure.  If it was between picking up a book and reading or doing something more active, I would chose the activity over reading ANY DAY!!!! ….ANY…..DAY!
  • For some people this wouldn’t even a challenge, for me it will be.  I wouldn’t want to do it if it didn’t require a sacrifice.
  • I’m not one for routine.  I love and value freedom and flexibility over set schedules & structures.  Because of that I will be committing to the reading plan every day!  There will be no “I didn’t read today so I gotta cram tomorrow to fit it all in”.  This isn’t about procrastination or the destination this is about applying myself to a discipline so that I can hopefully receive more revelation!

For the record, this has nothing really to do with completing it and saying “YAY we DID IT” but EVERYTHING to do with allowing more space for God to stretch us and teach us what He wants us to learn.

The fun part:  Brooke and I will be going on this journey together!!!!!!!!!

Lastly, If you want to join me on this journey leave a comment below and I’ll email you the reading plan that Brooke and I are going to follow that will take us through the new testament in 30 days.

    • Hi!
When you talk about staff reading, does that mean that your staff is assigned reading that you need to complete? Are you on staff at a church? If so, what kinds of things are you reading? How would such a program work? :)

      • I’m a campus minister with an organization called Impact Campus Ministries. (www.impacttheu.com) We work on the college campuses here in South Bend, IN. As a staff we want to make sure we are challenging ourselves and learning and growing. We have a book a month that we read and discuss as a staff. The books cover several different topics including ministry, culture, student development and even some fiction every now and then. Hope this is helpful for you.

  2. I realize that I am getting a late start on this but I would love to be a part of this challenge! Could u please email the reading plan? Thanks for putting this out there for us.

    • There is no such thing as a late start! There’s no better time to start than now. Some people received the plan and will start on monday so you’re golden.
