Service or Status!

As we’re down here in Mexico I’ve watching our students work and they have truly been giving it their all. I know that they “GET IT!” After every day we do some worship time and have a debfreif session. This is where all the students get to share whatever is on their mind regarding this journey.

I’ve noticed that more and more of the students “get” why we’re down here. The tendency when you go on a mission trip is to ONLY look at what God is doing in YOUR life, how God is changing YOU, how God is shaping YOU. But so far this entire trip the students have been looking at this as a HUGE opportunity to bless the children of Monterrey.

All of our mission trip T-shirts for this year have the heart of our Student Ministry at GCC written on them. Around GCC we recognize and acknowledge that “Other People Matter”. This years Mexico T-Shirt read “Los Demas Importan” which in spanish means “Other People Matter”. So in everything we do, we want to keep that upward and outward focus.

I love this Mexico team, here are a couple of reasons why:

They realize that we’re not here to use our abilities, gifts, and talents for selfish reasons, but for the benefit of others. I find that this is similar to the heart of Jesus, God didn’t give him miracle working power just to make his life comfortable and to do self-serving miracles. He gave Jesus that power for the benefit of others and to advance His Kingdom.

This team has a great sense of humor mixed with the desire to pour out ALL of themselves at every work project.

I constantly I hear them share their hearts for God to use them up so that the Kids of Monterrey can benefit. They truly realize that our strength is for Service NOT status!

God wired the universe in such in such a that we need each other.
1 Peter 4:10, “Each of you has been blessed with some of God’s many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others, so use your gift well.”
